Grand Opening Of The Cube Creative 2009.

Photography by Ange Fitzgerald

SOULJOURN | An exhibition by Tyler Sharp | THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1 - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17

Picture
Dallas-based photographer and global explorer Tyler Sharp, in his first-ever solo exhibition, shows us a mere tantalizing glimpse of his journeys through his striking portraits, landscapes, xeriscapes, cityscapes of Pakistan, India, Eastern Europe and Africa.

Sharp returns stateside once again - though surely not for long - and brings along with him this rare "comet tail" of world wanderings. After seeing the hundreds of spectacular photographs, the hardest part was winnowing down the most poignant pairings, the sharpest observations, and the most blazing color-drenched photographs that would be as close to experiencing the breadth of cultures and breath-taking moments without having been a stow-away yourself.

The Cube Creative is proud to offer fantastic, limited edition box-set print suites of his bonfire scenes, as well as large framed works. Individual limited edition and open edition prints will also be available for purchase and/or ordering through the gallery.

Come by October 1, 2009 for a sneak preview of Sharp's works, from 6pm to 9pm, during the monthly Bishop Arts District's "First Thursdays". The official Opening Reception for the artist will be two days later on October 3, 2009, from 6pm to 9pm and closes with a final reception on October 17.

On October 10, 2009, The Cube Creative is sponsoring an Art Bike & Ride from 5pm to 9pm as part of the celebrated Tyler Street Block Party during the 10-day "CYCLESOMATIC" series of events.

Artists are encouraged to decorate, paint, weld, wire, wrap, glue, or fabricate entirely new pedaled creations. The only requirement is that it’s ride-able and is not a hazard to passers by. The Cube Creative will announce the winners from a panel of judges. Judges are KERA's Art + Seek Director Anne Bothwell, photographer and mixed media artist Erica Fellicella, and Marla Bane, founder of The Dallas Arts Salon website and Facebook Fan Page and Senior VP & Chief Administrative Officer for Reach Media, Inc., a Dallas-based media and entertainment company.

First, second and third-place winners will receive a hand-made trophies by artists Kevin Obregon and Vanessa Neil, co-owners and artists of The Cube Creative. Winners will be announced and awarded their trophies during the Tyler Street Block Party, around 8:30pm. Artists are asked to be at the gallery on October 10, NO LATER than 3pm for registration and meet & greet. Artists should be prepared to ride their bikes for about 10 blocks and be back at the gallery by 7pm for a pass and review by the judges shortly thereafter. Artists must sign a liability waiver before they participate in the ride. You are not required to ride or compete, you can just bring an art bike if you so choose!

Food, Drinks and other festivities including live music and bike competitions will be at the block party, which begins at 7pm and ends at 11pm.

Please RSVP your participation (or questions) via E-MAIL to Kevin Obregon or Vanessa Neil at:

Thanks artists!

Tyler Street Block Party and Art Bike Ride!

Picture
What started out on a whim to welcome the Oak Cliff Bike Company into our creative wing of the Bishop Arts District, has now turned into a celebration of Art & Bike Culture with live music, Bar-B-Que, bicycle races, live art, T-shirt silkscreening and always interesting art in the three galleries on North Tyler Street between 8th and Davis - just a mere few blocks west of the Bishop Arts Square.

We are sponsoring the first annual Art Bike & Ride Competition here at the gallery on October 10, 2009 - from 6pm to 11pm.  Print this card for a special invitation into the block party. See you there!
